The post Hypothesis Testing In Data Science appeared first on Blogs.

]]>Hypothesis testing refers to a statistical method of technique that allows scientists and researchers to test the validity of their searches and claims related to the real world and life events. This approach of testing is used in data science to analyze whether the results of the research are true or not. The knowledge of the concept of hypothesis formulation is the key for solving business and real-life problems using data science.

Hypothesis testing is used when we compare:

- a single group of data with an external standard
- two or more groups of data with each other

There are five steps to hypothesis testing as discussed below:

State the alternate hypothesis, H1, and null hypothesis, H0. The null hypothesis presents the statement for the population parameter. The alternate hypothesis is a statement that will be accepted when the null hypothesis proves to be invalid. The statement states that there are differences between the data parameters.

The Z test is a statistical hypothesis that is used to determine whether the calculated means of two samples are different when the standard deviation is known and the sample size is large.

The T test is used to determine how averages of various datasets differ from each other when the standard deviation or variance is unknown.

A *p value* is useful to reject or support the findings of the *null hypothesis*. The *p value* acts as evidence against a *null hypothesis*.

Specify the Level of Significance:

The levels of significance indicate the probability of making a Type I error which is a decision in favour of the alternate hypothesis when there are elements of truth in the null hypothesis. For instance, when the level of significance is 0.05, then there is a 5% chance of rejecting the true null hypothesis.

Collect data and calculate the value of the test statistic:

Z-statistic or t-statistic is used when testing for the hypothesis. The z-statistic method is usually employed when the standard deviation of the data is known or when there is a normal distribution of data or when the sample size is less than 30. The t-statistic method will be employed when the standard deviation of a data is unknown, or the data is normally distributed or when the sample size is greater than 30.

Find the critical values:

This is the value that distinguishes the rejected and non-rejection regions. This is obtained by using the level of significance by comparing the critical values to the test statistic values. The null hypothesis is rejected if computed values are within the rejected area.

Interpret the decision:

Using the results obtained in step 4, we decide whether to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis. The decision is to be in support or against the null hypothesis.

For making conclusions using the p-values and the level of significance, when the level of significance obtained is less than the p-value, we fail to reject the null hypothesis. Still, when the significance level is higher than the p-value, we reject the null hypothesis.

Power is the probability of rejecting the false null hypothesis. Power should always be considered when designing an experiment. The sample size represents the total data items in an experiment.

Types of Hypothesis tests

There are 5 types of Hypothesis tests:

- Alternative Hypothesis
- Null Hypothesis
- Non-Directional Hypothesis
- Directional Hypothesis
- Statistical Hypothesis

You can learn more about these tests through an Online Data Science Degree.

The typical sales for this quarter, according to one company, are 100 units. A simple hypothesis looks like this.

Let’s say the corporation reports that sales are between 90 and 100 units. Then you’re dealing with the concept of composite theory.

Assume H0 is equal to 40 and H1 is not equal to 40.

The mean can be larger than or less than 40, according to the H1. A two-tailed test is demonstrated here.

Similarly, if H0: mean >=40, then H1: mean 40 is true.

The average is less than 40 in this case. It’s known as a one-tailed test.

]]>The post CLASSIFICATION IN DATA SCIENCE appeared first on Blogs.

]]>Have you ever wondered how apps can identify your confront or how protest discovery works or how the suggestion framework works Or how fraud detection works? All of these are conceivable because of classification calculations in Data Science. The supervised learning method of predicting the class of a given data point is called classification. Classes are known as labels. The work of classification is to create a mapping work (f) from input factors (X) to discrete yield factors (y). The yield of classification is continuously discrete.

- For illustration:- Bank has a fraud detection model for credit card transactions. This model is binary classification since there are 2 classes of fraud and not a fraud. Classifiers will be given a few training data to get how input features are dependent on the class (how they depend on certain classes). In this known fraud and not a fraud transactions will be given as input data. When the classifier is prepared precisely, it can be utilized to identify fraud detection.

In today’s time, we have huge data sets and we need to separate them into classes to do a study on respective classes. As we know classification gives output in form of discrete values so, it helps us to easily divide classes as we can be given a number to each class and it also helps us decide the class of the given data point.

Classification provides information on the statistical significance of features and is quick and easy, and cost-effective.

Lazy learners essentially spare the training data and hold up for the testing data. When this happens, classification is performed utilizing the foremost closely related information from the put-away training data. Lazy learners spend less time learning but more time determining than eager learners. Example:- K-Nearest Neighbor since in KNN we calculate the separation between each and each point so it takes time to memorize consequently it is considered a sluggish learner.

Before getting data for classification, eager learners create a classification model based on the given training data. Because of the model’s plan, eager learners require a long time to train and indeed longer to predict. Decision Trees, Gullible Bayes, and Counterfeit Neural Systems are examples.

It is utilized to classify the new images into classes with the least distance between them in multi-feature space.

K – Closest Neighbors is a non-linear classifier (and subsequently the prediction boundary is non-linear) that predicts which class an unused test data point has a place in by deciding the class of its k closest neighbors. These k closest neighbors are chosen based on a few measures like euclidian distance. Class containing most of the neighbors will be assigned the new data point. Because it delivers exceedingly exact expectations, the KNN calculation can compete with the foremost precise models. As a result, the KNN calculation can be utilized in applications that require tall precision but do not require a human-readable demonstration.

The Bayes’ Theorem is utilized to form the Naive Bayes Classifier. The fundamental presumptions are that all of the features are independent of one another and contribute similarly to the final result; they are all similarly vital. In any case, in genuine life, these suspicions are not continuously redressed (a drawback of Naive Bayes). The Bayes’ theorem lies at the heart of this probabilistic classifier scheme. Because the Nave Bayes Classifier could be a speedy learner, it can be utilized in real-time predictions. It’s utilized in content classification and estimation investigation, for illustration. Credit scoring is done with it. It is connected to the classification of restorative information.

The most capable classifier is Decision Tree Classification. A decision tree could be a chart that looks like a tree, with each inside node signifying a test on an attribute (a condition), each branch signifying the test’s conclusion (True or Untrue), and each leaf node (terminal node) holding a class label. Splits are made on this tree to distinguish classes within the unique dataset. Based on the decision tree, the classifier predicts which of the classes a new data point has a place. Level and vertical lines characterize the prediction bounds. Decision trees are a widespread technique in machine learning and are regularly utilized in operations investigation, particularly in the choice investigation, to assist find the leading strategy for accomplishing a goal.

Logistic regression is a statistical approach for predicting the outcome of a dependent variable based on past data. It is a typical approach for tackling binary classification issues and is a form of regression analysis.

Application of logistic regression is in house price prediction, medical image processing, etc.

Neural Networks are used when we don’t know the data set’s features and we need to classify the data in a very fast manner. Neural networks are used in speech recognition, face recognition, object detection, language translation, and many more.

The output of classification algorithms is discrete. It helps us segregate vast quantities of data into discrete values or simply we can say it allows us to decide. Classification provides information on the statistical significance of features and is quick and easy, and cost-effective. ]]>The post Basic Formulas in Excel appeared first on Blogs.

]]>Microsoft Office includes MS-EXCEL. Its a spreadsheet program that helps us organize data, calculates the data in a very fast and efficient manner and helps us show the data graphically. Excel contains multiple rows and columns. Each sheet is made up of 1048576 rows and 16383 columns.

It assists you in analyzing all of the facts in your spreadsheet so that you may make more informed business judgments. Excel may assist you by recommending and then constructing PivotTables, which are an excellent method to summarise, analyze, explore, and present data.

In Microsoft Excel, a formula is a mathematical expression that is applied on values contained in a range of cells. These formulas produce a result even if there is a mistake. Excel formulae can do addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and a range of other calculations.

Write the formula in front of fx. Have a look at the image. We need to write the formula at the place where the arrow is pointing.

As the name implies, the SUM() method returns the sum of the all the values present in given range of cells. It performs addition just like it is done in mathematics i.e. adding all the values present in the selected range. As an example, consider the following:

When we typed “=SUM(C2:C4)” we were able to add all the values present in the cell of column C containing values of sales i.e. 180 + 320 + 1625 = 2125. The outcome was saved in C5.

The AVERAGE() function computes the average of cell values within a certain range. Simply put “AVERAGE(C2:C4)” to get the average total sales, as illustrated in the example below.

COUNT() returns the total number of cells in a number-filled range. It does not count any cell that is not containing numeric data.

COUNT function starts counting from cell C1 and ends its search at C4. During its counting, it includes only cells containing numerical values. It is giving output 2 because it is omitting cells C1 and C4 as C1 is having text values and cell C4 is blank.

To count cells containing numerical values, text values or any other values then use COUNTA().

The SUBTOTAL() function returns subtotal of a table. You can choose between min, max, sum, count, average, and others, depending on your needs. Let’s look at two examples of this.

In the above example, we have selected cells starting from A2 and ending at A4. The function used is “=SUBTOTAL(1, A2: A4)”. “1” is used to find average in the subtotal list. As a result, the aforementioned code will return the average of A2: A4, with the response 20 being put in C5.

MOD() function returns the remainder of a given number divided by a divisor. To understand this MOD() function better let’s look at an example

We divided all the numbers from cell A2 to A4 by 5 in this case. The remainder is calculated with the “=MOD(A2:A4,5)” function. The outcome is saved in column B.

The POWER() function is used to find the power of a given number. We need two parameters for this function first is the range of cells on which function is to be applied and the numerical value which is power raised. To understand better below is the implementation.

In the above example, we have typed POWER(A2:A4, 3). Here Power function is returning storing power of cells between A2 to A4 in column B i.e. B2 to B4.

The CEILING() function rounds a value to the next significant integer multiple.

As we can see in the above example we have provided two parameters to the function CEILING function, First is the range of cells to be selected i.e. A2 to A4 and another is numerical values from which all the numbers in the cell will be divided.

This function returns nearest integer multiple.

As we can see in the above example we have provided two parameters to the function FLOOR function, First select range of cells on which function should be applied i.e. A2 to A4 and another is numerical values from which all the numbers in the cell will be divided.

Count of all the characters in a string is returned by LEFT() function. Counting starts from the left side of the string. Meanwhile, the MID() method, given a starting location and length, retrieves the characters that starts from the middle of a text string. The RIGHT() function returns the length of a text string in characters.

Let’s look at a few instances to better comprehend these functions.

The function left is used in the example below to get the leftmost word in the statement in cell A1.

An example of how to use the mid function can be seen here.

This is an illustration of the right function.

The UPPER() method raises the case of any text string. The LOWER() function, on the other hand, lowercases the given string consisting of text characters. The PROPER() function changes the text into proper form, which means that the first letter in each word is capital and the rest is lowercase.

Let’s look at a few examples to help you understand:

The text in A1 has been transformed to a full uppercase text in B1.

The text in A1 has now been transformed to a complete lowercase version, as seen in B1.

Finally, the improper text in A1 has been transformed into a clean and accurate format in B1.

In Excel, the NOW() function displays the current machine time and date.

The output of the NOW() function differs depending on the date and time on your system.

In Excel, the TODAY() function returns the system date.

The role The month’s day is returned using DAY(). A number between 1 and 31 will be chosen. The month begins on January 1 and ends on December 31.

The MONTH() method returns the month as a number between one and twelve, with one being January and twelve being December.

YEAR() returns the year from a date value, as its name suggests.

The TIME() function turns integers such as hours, minutes, and seconds into a time format in Excel.

Total number of characters present in a string is returned by LEN() function. It special characters, text, numbers and also includes spaces. Implementation is shown below.

This function connects or merges multiple text strings into a single string. The method for performing this function is listed below.

]]>The post Kick start excel: Absolute and Relative cell referencing appeared first on Blogs.

]]>Although there have been several new tools and programming languages in the market to help in data analytics, Excel still retains the number one spot. It is because excel comes in-built with bar charts, pie charts, and even pivot tables that help in data analytics and decision-making.

There are many functionalities in Excel like VLOOKUP, SUMIF, AVERAGEIF, etc. that can make the process of data analytics smoother.

However, the most basic and simple functionalities are Relative and Absolute Cell References.

A relative cell reference is the default value of any cell in a spreadsheet. It is a combination of rows and columns. For example, a single cell C2 is a relative cell reference.

Relative cell references are free and not locked. They correspond to the change in the location of a cell. All cells, unless otherwise specified, are relative cell references.

When copied to different cells, relative cell references change to correspond with the change in rows and columns.

For example, you create a sales invoice for a number of items sold. Column B contains a list of all items, column C contains the number of items sold, and column D has the rates for each item.

Using a simple formula =C2*D2, we can quickly get the correct answer. Once the formula is copied to the following rows, it automatically calculates the correct answer by corresponding to the change in rows.

An absolute cell reference means that the value of a cell is locked and cannot be changed when copied anywhere else in a workbook.

If you want the value in a particular cell in a workbook to be the same, you can lock the cell with an absolute reference.

Absolute cell references can be identified by the dollar ($) signs that appear in the formula. For example, if cell C3 is locked, the reference will be $C$3.

Here is an example.

You need to calculate sales tax for items in your store. In your Excel worksheet, cell C3 contains the tax rate. For calculating the tax of each item, in the formula for calculating tax, cell C3 is locked as $C$3.

No matter where the formula is copied in the workbook, the tax rate in C3 is absolute and can not be changed.

Relative cell references give an outcome that changes concerning the rows and columns when a formula is copied elsewhere in the worksheet.

On the other hand, absolute cell references remain constant as one or more of the values used in the formulas will remain constant, irrespective of where the formula is copied in a worksheet.

For example, you would use relative cell references when you want to calculate something for a range of items. You can input the formula in one cell and copy it to the others in the range. It would give accurate results for the entire range of items.

Absolute cell references can be used to lock a particular cell in a workbook.

For instance, if you are calculating the tax on a range of products, you can make the cell containing the tax rate an absolute reference using $ ‘dollar’ signs. This will ensure that while calculating the tax amount for the entire range of items, the tax rate in the calculation remains the same.

All absolute cell references will have dollar signs to lock in the value. To make a complete reference into a relative reference, you need to remove the dollar signs from the formula.

A relative cell reference could be any basic formula in Excel.

For example, if you are calculating the total amount in an invoice, and the value of each line item is listed from cells C2 to C9, you would use the formula =SUM(C2:C9).

If you have a discounted value of each item in column D from cells D2 to D9, you can simply copy the SUM formula from column C to column D and automatically get the correct results for the formula =SUM(D2:D9).

Excel is an excellent tool for data analytics because it can be customized with functionalities and fields depending on the amount of data you have to analyze. Being proficient in Excel can help you get a head start in understanding how large amounts of data can be processed for easier understanding and analysis.
